Organizational Overview

JADA House International (JHI) is a multigenerational, community-based organization committed to uplifting families, strengthening community ties, and rebuilding the village. Our programs serve seniors, kinship families, youth, and the broader community by creating spaces for learning, healing, support, and fellowship. Founded in Hazelwood and rooted in lived experience, JHI is growing into a legacy organization focused on generational impact.

Position Summary

The Board Chair is the lead governance officer of JADA House International and plays a critical leadership role in guiding the organization’s strategic vision, ensuring financial sustainability, and cultivating strong partnerships. The ideal candidate is compassionate, community-minded, and aligned with JHI’s mission of rebuilding the village through love, dignity, and empowerment.

This individual will work closely with the Executive Director to advance organizational growth, strengthen board capacity, and expand financial resources to support the long-term sustainability of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Governance

  • Provide strategic leadership to the board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities.

  • Ensure that the board functions effectively, collaboratively, and in alignment with JHI’s mission and values.

  • Lead the planning and execution of board meetings, annual planning, and board development.

  • Foster a culture of trust, accountability, and shared commitment among board members.

Strategic Partnership With the Executive Director

  • Serve as a thought partner and advisor to the Executive Director.

  • Support and guide the Executive Director in leadership, fundraising, and organizational decisions.

  • Maintain open, respectful, and confidential communication grounded in trust.

Financial Sustainability & Fund Development

  • Champion efforts to build a strong financial foundation and surplus.

  • Support fundraising strategies, including donor cultivation, sponsorships, foundation relationships, and partnership building.

  • Help identify and leverage opportunities to secure long-term community and philanthropic investment.

Community Advocacy & Representation

  • Serve as an ambassador for JHI in community spaces, meetings, civic conversations, and partnerships.

  • Promote the mission, values, and impact of JHI to external stakeholders and supporters.

  • Strengthen JHI’s reputation as a trusted, community-rooted organization.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Strong commitment to the mission and values of JADA House International.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience (nonprofit, corporate, community, faith, or civic).

  • Authentic relationship-building skills, grounded in respect and empathy.

  • Ability to lead others with compassion, accountability, and vision.

Preferred but not required:

  • Experience in nonprofit governance or board leadership.

  • Fund development, financial strategy, or organizational development experience.

  • Familiarity with Hazelwood and/or Pittsburgh’s community landscape.

Time Commitment

  • 4-year term with potential for renewal.

  • 4–6 board meetings per year, plus committee work and community representation as needed.

  • Regular partnership communication with the Executive Director.

Compensation

This is a volunteer leadership role. The reward is legacy impact — helping to build an organization that will serve families for generations.
